A cyber vandalism incident at 19 UK railway stations has been linked to an insider at the internet provider, resulting in a message about terror attacks displayed on people's devices when accessing Network Rail's wifi system.
Telent confirmed the incident originated within the Global Reach network and was not due to a security breach. Efforts are underway to restore public Wi-Fi services by the weekend in collaboration with Network Rail, Global Reach and the British Transport Police.

Affected stations include major hubs in London, the South East, North West, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, West and South West and Scotland. Network Rail states that the cyber-security incident has impacted not only railway stations but potentially other organizations as well. Public Wi-Fi services have been suspended during the investigation.
Chris Dyson from Leeds encountered the alarming message on Wednesday at Birmingham New Street, sparking concerns about the nature of the security alerts and pop-ups. Network Rail is actively addressing the cyber-security incident to safeguard public Wi-Fi users at managed stations.
