Interview with John Sproule, General Manager, LW Surphlis
Why did you choose Loughtec as your IT infrastructure provider?
One of the main reasons is because they’re a local company and they’re the best in the Omagh area. We didn’t want to get a company from Belfast or Lisburn or somewhere else that was fairly distant. We also wanted someone who understood the agriculture business and rural business. Our previous IT supplier didn’t really understand the business. Sean and his team do understand with Sean coming from an agricultural background himself. This means Sean and the team can understand us as a customer and the geographic area we cover.
What were your top concerns or criteria when choosing an IT infrastructure provider?
Cathal’s technical knowledge is excellent and that was a big factor. We had an older IT system called SwiftSoft which Martin looked after and he did a great job. We then switched over to Intact and Martin was tremendous in the work he did at that time which ensured a very smooth changeover. Loughtec first put in place the new hardware then we had a gap of a few months over the winter before taking the next step and implementing the software. Martin was excellent throughout the process.
How important is the work that Loughtec does to your business?
Loughtec are an essential provider of services. We’re in touch with them half a dozen times a week on average. In certain cases they can provide the assistance we need remotely over the phone or internet but when someone is needed here Martin will call in in the morning on his way to the office or in the evening on his way home. The systems they support are critical to the business and we rely on them for the smooth functioning of those systems – it would be very hard to run things without them.
How do you view Loughtec today?
They are responsive, accessible on the phone, provide good holiday cover and we can get in touch with them in the mornings or evenings if there is an emergency. The agriculture business is 24 hour a day, 365 days a year business. All of our customers are farmers who have to work seven days a week and they expect that we’ll be available when they need us. We’re also a big business that is always in operation. That’s why we need the same kind of round the clock access to Sean and the team that our customers expect from us, to ensure we can keep our operations running smoothly nearly continiously. And Loughtec are always at the end of the phone, they’re there when you need them.
What do they do well? What do you like about them?
We like that they are technically capable and they’re available when we need their assistance.
What could they do better?
Well of course we’d say they could be cheaper. But there is no single issue or problem that springs to mind. They are covering us well and provide a good service.
If another company asked you about Loughtec what would you say? Would you recommend them?
Yes, I’d be happy to recommend Loughtec
