Interview with Michael O’Kane, IT Systems Manager, Cooneen
Why did you choose Loughtec as your IT infrastructure provider?
Loughtec originally came to Cooneen. They proposed a solution that they thought would fit elements of our business—the solution was WebConnect. We trialed and implement WebConnect and through the implementation realised that Cathal and the team at Loughtec had a good grasp of IT infrastructure, Microsoft systems and networking technologies. During the trial we developed confidence in Loughtec’s expertise. The guys were extremely good at what they were doing.
What were your top concerns or criteria when choosing an IT infrastructure provider?
In general our top criteria would include accreditations and good client references. The basic question is ‘do they know what they are talking about’? We were able to quickly establish that Loughtec knew technologies they recommended and implemented.
How important is the work that Loughtec does to your business?
There are a couple of answers to that question. In 2009 Cooneen acquired the Salisbury based company ‘Images at work’. Loughtec’s implementation of WebConnect allowed staff in Salisbury to connect immediately to Cooneen’s ERP system, accelerating in the integration of the new company and enabling productive work to continue uninterrupted. The system also provides remote workers with access to all facilties such as files and applications as if they were sitting at their desk. So regarding the ‘Images at Work’ acquisition and integration Loughtec played a critical role.
Regarding the Cooneen group of companies as a whole Loughtec play an important role, but no so critical.
How do you view Loughtec today?
They are a growing, expanding company. They are very professional and experienced. Cathal in particular is technically excellent and Martin has a good depth of experience. They are forward looking in terms of the technology they adopt and promote to customers.
What do they do well? What do you like about them?
They have a good ability to source and implement alternative solutions outside of those being provided by majority of IT infrastructure providers. For example, WebConnect is a good alternative to Citrix and the Hauwei SANa are a good (and less costly) alternative to mainstream SAN solutions.
What could they do better?
Nothing everything is faultless.
If another company asked you about Loughtec what would you say? Would you recommend them?
I would recommend Loughtec and have already done in the past.
